Customer Service Representative (Freight Forwarder)

Do you make sure everything runs smoothly for our customers? Become a Customer Service Representative at NewPort in Moerdijk.

About NewPort

NewPort is one of the world’s largest tank container operators (number 2) and part of Gentco. We make sure liquid bulk cargo, from chemicals to food, travels the world safely and efficiently, and we are proud of it. From our global headquarters in Moerdijk we work internationally and across time zones. Our motto: we never stop. It is deeply ingrained in our DNA: we have each other’s back, we are always there for our customers, and whatever the problem is, we solve it. We expect the same from you. You will join a young, ambitious team that collaborates closely, in a great office.

Your department

You will join the Operations team, the heart of NewPort. The department takes care of deep sea transport, intermodal transport and the transport of hazardous goods, and consists of the Imports, Exports, Special Tanks and Equipment Planning & Control (EPC) teams. The department handles orders from A to Z and has 60 colleagues across Europe.

Your role

As a Freight Forwarder (Customer Service Representative) at NewPort in Moerdijk, you are the first point of contact for our customers and you make sure their logistics processes run smoothly.

A day in the role

You start your day with a fresh cup of coffee. With a focused look, you take your seat at your desk. You go through your current shipments and priorities. Before you have even opened your mailbox, an urgent question comes in: a customer wants an update on a rush delivery. You immediately liaise with your colleagues in truck planning, verify the delivery status and keep the customer informed.

During the morning, the team holds a brainstorming session on optimising the order-handling process. Plenty of ideas about more efficient ways of working are tossed back and forth, and it gives you a huge amount of energy. Just as you want to start working out the ideas, the phone rings. There is a leak in one of our tank containers. You do not hesitate for a moment. You inform the right colleagues, check the contents of the tank container and make sure all safety protocols are followed. It looks tense for a moment, but fortunately the damage turns out to be limited. Thanks to your quick action, the impact is contained and the transport can continue with minimal delay.
In the afternoon you meet a customer about the import documentation. You go through the required papers and advise on the next steps. You discover that the Bill of Lading is missing. You quickly liaise with your international colleagues to make sure the tank is imported without delay. Afterwards you update the financial settlement of your completed orders and check the status of the current shipments once more.

Everything runs smoothly.
